As things begin to return to normal and businesses once again open their doors, locals and tourists alike are no doubt eager to begin exploring all that the Grand strand has to offer. Those that know the Grand Strand know that it is always changing, and this is just one of the things that has people falling in love with the area. After a long year of uncertainty, we can all be thankful for the new attraction at the beach that will take all of our 2020 blues away. Here’s what’s new at the beach:
The FunPlex Myrtle Beach
It seems almost criminal that somewhere as big of a tourist destination as Myrtle Beach doesn’t have a proper amusement park. Sure, there have been attempts in the past and there are some smaller locations with some rides, but none with the real thrills that some may be looking for. Well look no further, as The FunPlex Myrtle Beach is here for all of those thrill seekers. Located at 1405 North Ocean between 14th and 15th Avenue, this new tropical themed amusement park, restaurant, and bar are just one block from the beach. The FunPlex features seven family-thrill rides including the soon to be finished Mach Fun – the tallest interactive 360 degree flying jet ride and the first of its kind in North America, as well as the Fun in the Sun Coaster – a coaster that features a lengthy track encircling the perimeter of the park and a hamster wheel car specifically for those thrill seekers previously mentioned. The park and restaurant are free to enter, while attractions are individually priced.
Crazy Mason
You’ve seen it on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter – those incredibly photogenic mason jars filled with delicious looking milkshakes and absolutely mouth-watering toppings towering above including the likes of full pieces of pies, loads of oreo cookies, and an entire soft pretzel. So don’t you want to try one? Luckily for you, there are now two locations of the Crazy Mason in both Myrtle Beach and Now North Myrtle Beach where you can try your own crazy concoction. The new North Myrtle Beach location is at 1105 Hwy 17 S, inside of the bowling alley 810 Billiards and Bowling. Come for the shakes, and stay for all of the fun activities such as bowling, pool tables, darts, and a full restaurant and bar. One of the most popular local favorites you can find at Crazy Mason is the Moose N’ Waffles – moose tracks ice cream in a chocolate swirled jar with a fudge rim rolled in crushed butterfinger then topped with a pearl sugar waffle, a full butterfinger bar, chocolate and caramel sauce, and finally whipped cream. Wow.
Roca Roja Cantina
To many people, Summer means good drinks, good food, and good times. Thankfully, you can get all three down at the Roca Roja Cantina located at 806 Sea Mountain Hwy in North Myrtle Beach. They strive to provide the Grand Strand with the most unique and authentic mexican food from places such as Oaxaca and Michoacan, as well as a great atmosphere for those who like to have a good time. The restaurant also features a cantina as well as a tequila lounge that boasts the largest selection of tequilas in South Carolina. With gorgeous views on the Cherry Grove marsh, you’ll no doubt be back time and time again for Taco Tuesdays and Wednesday Trivia nights. We’ll see you there! Happy hour is Wednesday – Saturday from 4 – 7 pm.
New Breweries
In a trend that has been seen all across the country, breweries have been starting to pop up, and I doubt anyone is complaining. Two of those new ones here at the Grand Strand in 2021 are the Crooked Hammock Brewery and the Grand Strand Brewing Company, both with very different but very exciting atmospheres to them.
Crooked Hammock Brewery
Located at Barefoot Landing, this brewery brings new dining options to the area. This family friendly, as well as dog friendly, brewery will also feature an outdoor relaxation area complete with hammocks and plenty of seating but also games and other fun activities. Even better, with the new kitchen open, the Island Bar will feature a 360 degree view of the beautiful Barefoot Landing.
Grand Strand Brewing Company
As a feature to the plans for the city’s new Arts & Entertainment District surrounding Nance Plaza in downtown Myrtle Beach, the Grand Strand Brewing Company helps to breathe new life into the area. This Brewery also has an incredible outdoor area with a stage for live musical acts and the likes. Fun is in full swing here with many guests having enjoyed the Carolina Country Music Fest just recently.
